Biography

Co-Founder of NMA (formerly known as New Mystics Theatre Company, Inc.), Tonya Madia has served as the organization’s Board President since it’s establishment in 2004. She will soon be vacating that position to become the Executive Director. Tonya has a broad range of experience working in both the arts and the world of non-profits, in the field of disabilities. In her nearly ten years experience in the field of human services Tonya has learned the true value of contributing to the community.

In 2003 Tonya graduated from the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities’ Partners in Policymaking (PIP). PIP is a leadership training program in which participants learn how to achieve a productive partnership between people with disabilities and those in a position to make policy and law. In addition to her work in the community, Tonya has held several marketing and community relations positions and is certified in Non-Profit Management.

In 2005 Tonya co-founded and managed Actors Playground, an acting school in Eatontown, NJ which continues to flourish and grow.

Tonya is also an actress, artist, doll maker and writer. She has been designing and crafting cloth dolls for over ten years. Tonya recently discovered the joy of crafting the classic Rockford Sock Monkey and recently started Sock-O-Grams, a Sock Monkey greeting business. She is currently collaborating with artist Nick Pendleton on an inspirational Sock Monkey–themed pocket book.

Tonya is also co-writer of the book for the award-winning short musical “The Think it Thru Revue,” which toured the southwest United States promoting abstinence and teen pregnancy prevention.
